US president Donald Trump has left internet users very confused with his recent tweet linking the Moon to Mars.
POTUS took to Twitter to declare that NASA’s plan to go to the Moon was apparently passé, and that the space agency should instead focus on doing “bigger things… including [looking into] Mars (of which the Moon is a part).”
The inaccurate claim, of course, went viral, as the internet had a lot of questions about how Trump could have thought the Moon was part of planet Mars.
The tweet also fueled many hilarious jokes, with one Twitter user suggesting to “build a wall between Earth and Moon” to prevent any landings in the future. Another advised fellow internet users to “shoot for the Moon,” because if they missed, they would “land among the Mars.”
According to CNET, NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine had a much more optimistic view about Trump’s confusing tweet.
He came forward to discuss Trump’s comments during a meeting with members of the Glenn Research Center in Ohio, addressing whether Trump’s shoutout of NASA meant the White House was becoming more supportive of the space agency’s ‘Artemis’ mission, which aimed to bring humans to the moon by 2024.
Bridenstine interpreted the president’s tweet to indicate that landing on the moon was a “proving ground” and with the given technology, NASA would be able to explore space even further. As for the ‘Artemis’ mission, Bridenstine said NASA would still go forward with it.
For all of the money we are spending, NASA should NOT be talking about going to the Moon - We did that 50 years ago. They should be focused on the much bigger things we are doing, including Mars (of which the Moon is a part), Defense and Science!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 7, 2019

10 bucks said Jim’s heart stopped a little when he saw that tweet. Nice save though. This is why you’re such a good administrator— David Willis (@ThePrimalDino) June 7, 2019
