‘Amazon’s Choice’ Products Have Been Found To Sometimes Not Mean Quality At All

The appearance of an “Amazon’s Choice” label might be far from a certification of a product’s quality, a new investigation reveals. While it seems relieving to see the badge, real-life examples show there are some listings that come with obvious defects and misleading reviews.
As it turns out, the title is given to products based on an algorithm that factors in customer reviews, price and whether they are in stock, BuzzFeed News discovers. Amazon has declined to specify how exactly the listings are chosen, and why some items come with serious problems.
In a statement by an Amazon spokesperson to BuzzFeed News, he claimed the Amazon’s Choice ranking was launched in 2015 to make shopping easier by highlighting well-reviewed and affordable products that can be shipped immediately.
People who bought defective products with the badge contradicted the narrative by posting them on social media to warn potential customers. For instance, John Hill on Twitter posted a video of a skateboard that appeared to split immediately after use with a caption indicating that he purchased the Amazon Choice product for US$35.
Another customer posted a screenshot of a portable washer and dryer, also with the Amazon’s Choice label, that “broke… after a single load.”
Even an inaccurate infant thermometer managed to get the badge, making it all the more hazardous. A forehead-and-ear thermometer with a 3.6-star average rating over 1,509 reviews oddly had an honest product description indicating the results were “widely inaccurate;” Amazon has since taken down the unflattering writeup and replaced it with a positive one, but it remains unclear if the product has been improved.
Either way, it suffices to say that customers should be careful not to immediately purchase any product just because it has “Amazon’s Choice” pegged to it.

On the off chance you're like me and have to pay stupid prices for laundry, do not buy this peice of garbage. It broke for me after a single load and now I get to spend my day off tomorrow returning it. Save your money friends.
