McDonald’s will be removing plastic lids from its ‘McFlurry’ ice cream cups in an ode to save the environment.
The change will be implemented across its UK outlets come September. McDonald’s will also be replacing its single-use plastic salad bowls to recyclable cardboard containers instead.
With these two changes implemented, the fast food chain aims to decrease its plastic waste by 485 metric tons each year.
Speaking about the company’s latest sustainability approach, Beth Hart, supply chain director of McDonald’s UK and Ireland, says the team is “committed to listening” to patrons and always looking for alternatives with suppliers to become environmentally responsible.
Previously, the chain replaced its plastic straws with paper ones that received divided opinions due to their flimsiness, especially when left in drinks.
