Google Is The Name Of A Baby Whose Father Hopes To Grow Up ‘Useful’
By Yimin Huang, 26 Jun 2019

An Indonesian father from Bekasi Regency, West Java has decided to name his son after Google, the search engine and technology giant, as he wishes the boy would grow up to be “useful to others.”
This is one of several unusual names adopted for Indonesian babies, including Asian Games, Andi Go To School and Alhamdulillah Lanang Anakku. In Indonesia, names are believed to carry vibrations that would follow people all their lives.
Baby Google was born on 30 November 2018 to Mr Andi Cahya Saputra, 31, and Mdm Ella Karina, 27, according to Today. He is the only member in the family with an uncommon name, as his sister has a regular Indonesian name.
Saputra decided to name his son after the tech giant when his wife was seven months pregnant, and even considered options like Microsoft, iPhone, iOS and Windows.
He also deliberated on more familiar names derived from religion, but when the child was eventually born, Saputra decided ‘Google’ was the name for him.
Members of the family have opposed the name, including Google’s mother and grandfather, but Saputra insisted it “has a great meaning” and would help the son “become a useful person to others.”
He also revealed that the name made headlines six months after the boy’s birth, and he continues to get regular criticism for the decision.
