IBM One-Ups Apple Watch With Smartwatch Design That Expands Into Phone & Tablet

Apple and Samsung might be the most well-known smart gadget brands out there, but a new smartwatch design from IBM can do things that have not previously been demonstrated by other companies.
IBM has obtained a patent for a fascinatingly futuristic smartwatch design that can expand to become a smartphone on your wrist, and then magnify again to the size of a tablet. The patent was published last month in the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) database so no company can steal the novel idea without consequence.
The iteration might appear to be an ordinary smartwatch at first, but it actually conceals seven auxiliary screen parts under the main screen.
The eight displays measure two-by-three inches each, and can become a four-by-six inch panel when pulled out to resemble the size of a smartphone, according to BGR.
It is uncertain whether IBM would commercialize the smartwatch as it is better known for selling personal computers. However, this is not the first time it has come up with a smartwatch, as its first prototype for one dated way back to 2000. Apple and Samsung could face stiff competition if this product makes it out in the market.
