Barbie channels glam rock legend David Bowie to celebrate 50 years since the debut of Space Oddity.
The commemorative doll sees Barbie dressed as ‘Ziggy Stardust’, Bowie’s otherworldly bisexual alter ego, along with red locks, a red and blue metallic “space suit” with flared shoulders, face paint, and red platform boots.
Mattel describes the new figure as a “definitive celebration of two pop culture icons,” revering the late Bowie as the “ultimate pop chameleon” whose “musical transformations continue to influence and inspire.” This release marks the semicentennial since the release of the famed Space Oddity from Bowie’s eponymous 1969 album.
The ‘David Bowie’ Barbie was launched on 11 July, and was created in collaboration with the 2019 The David Bowie Archive.
The US$50 collector’s item is already sold out, but Mattel has placed it on back order, so no need to feel like you are Under Pressure. You can request to receive notifications for when it’s available again.
