Skype Unveils New Logo That Looks Suspiciously Similar To Facebook Messenger’s
By Izza Sofia, 19 Aug 2019
Skype is now the latest brand to be smeared with criticism over its new visual identity.
For its new logo, the app inverted the colors of its old icon such that the letter ‘S’ is now drenched in white and contrasted against a blue bubble-like background.
The branding was designed in line with Microsoft’s Fluent Design System, and is expected to appear on all of Skype’s platforms in the coming weeks.
Some users don’t seem to take to the refresh, as they feel it appears too similarly to the Facebook Messenger icon, making both apps hard to differentiate at first glance.
Aside from this critique, social media users have griped that the symbol looks “bloated and overweight.” As with Snapchat’s overhaul, some have considered removing the app due to the logo switch.
