Peppering your texts with emoji might come across as annoying to some, but it seems that a little bit actually goes a long way.
Following a new study of over 5,000 people, scientists at The Kinsey Institute have found that texters who use more emojis have more sex and are more likely to progress to second dates.
While the research doesn’t show any noticeable link between increased emoji use and the frequency of first dates, it suggests a greater number of second dates.
Those who don’t shy away from emoticons are also found to have kissed during dates, get laid or enter new relationships with their texting mates.
However, 86.8-percent of participants identified as straight, while 62.2 percent said they were White/Caucasian, so the sample unfortunately wasn’t that diverse.
As to why emoji usage is linked to getting lucky, the researchers deduce that they let daters “communicate important affective information to potential partners,” allowing them to secure more “romantic and sexual opportunities.”
With that being said, texters who punctuate their messages with emojis more frequently tend to be “more successful at establishing connection and thus enjoy more opportunities for romantic and sexual engagement," they add.
Sadly, the survey didn’t examine which emojis could be the greatest turn-ons, so you might want to use the eggplant and peach icons at your discretion.
