The Matrix is undoubtably one of the quintessential films of our time, and with its fourth edition officially heading towards development in 2020, fans of the franchise are reminded of the iconic cyber criminal, ‘Neo’, played by Keanu Reeves.
Iconically dressed in black leather with slim shades and flowing overcoats, ‘Neo’ is a fashion icon whose look weds pretty boys with darkness, grim and mystery.
Since The Matrix, Reeves took on various roles in his acting career, and his popularity grew further when he breathed life into John Wick. Keanu Reeves has range. Whether he is the poster boy for the 90s or the meme of the millennium, the star continues to entertain fans on and offscreen.
As part of Reddit’s ‘Ask Me Anything’ segment, one fan questioned the actor, “Do you keep any props or stuff like that from your movies? Like the jacket and sunglasses from The Matrix, or the surf board from Point Break?”
To the query Reeves replied, “I have kept a couple of things. I don’t have the surfboard, but I think I have a coat from the first Matrix.”
He added, “I have the sword from Hamlet, I kept a lot of working scripts, I have the jersey from The Replacements, I’ve got Constantine’s lighter and watch, I have Bill & Ted’s shorts (‘Ted’s shorts), I used to have the leather jacket from My Own Private Idaho but I gave that to a friend. And I think that’s it.”
From the futuristic 1999 sci-fi film, Reeves snagged the signature overflowing coat that fans have grown to love in ‘Neo’s look. Many wonder after revealing this, if the filmmakers of the next edition will pay homage to the first movie by including the old outerwear in a scene for the sequel.
Matrix 4 is still in the works of formulating its title and the production of the film will kickstart in early 2020. As one of the more highly-anticipated films, rumors and speculations have started to spread the internet, one of which is that Laurence Fishburne will not be returning but a younger actor will take on the role of ‘Morpheus’.
As fans raise eyebrows to the rumor since the character was killed off at the end of the franchise in the early 2000s, we can only hope for a potential plot twist.
