Ariana Grande’s ‘7 Rings’ Dress Design Was Reportedly Stolen From A Drag Queen
By Izza Sofia, 09 Sep 2019
A drag performer has accused Ariana Grande of stealing her look and featuring it in the 7 Rings music video.
Farrah Moan, a contestant in RuPaul’s Drag Race, called out Grande on Twitter, claiming that the singer and her team have ripped off her ensemble. The performer also attached side-by-side images of the similar garments as proof.
In her tweet, she implied that Grande should hand “10 million [dollars]” to her since the pop star’s team used her photo as a visual reference. “I guess stealing from queer artists for profit is fine,” Moan added.
Moan gave the estimate of “10 million [dollars]” possibly due to a recent complaint Grande filed against Forever 21, where the singer sued the fashion retailer for US$10 million for featuring a Grande lookalike in an “unauthorized marketing campaign.”
The controversy, however, doesn’t stop here. Fashion watchdog Diet Prada has also revealed a mood board supposedly by different designers who were approached by Grande’s team to create looks for her tour.
The Sweetener mood board shows looks from Rihanna and Ciara, as well a bondage-styled lingerie designed by Yeha Leung, that were seemingly replicated for the tour.
Ariana should give me a cut of that 10M since her team literally sent a pic of me to the designer and paid them to copy my look from as4. (Finally met the designer and got told the Tea) I guess stealing from queer artists for profit is fine tho 🤷🏼♀️ pic.twitter.com/1smGr8K4G0— 👑 Farrah Moan (@farrahrized) September 4, 2019
But the point is her team also stole. U can attack me all day but it’s not gonna change anything. I can admit I was petty with that gif I posted& I’ll apologize for that but at the end of the day they did what they did. Idc about suing anyone, just needed to put this out there— 👑 Farrah Moan (@farrahrized) September 5, 2019

*𝘿𝙋 𝙀𝙓𝘾𝙇𝙐𝙎𝙄𝙑𝙀* : If you've ever needed proof of Ariana Grande’s appropriation of black aesthetics (beyond the obvious), it's all here. Multiple designers approached by her team to create costumes for the 2019 Sweetener tour have shared with us a PDF moodboard sent to them by her team. 72% of the four page document features black women as a reference (mostly Rihanna and a couple Ciara images). It also features several images of @creepyyeha 's distinctive made-to-measure bondagewear, which Versace - despite having bondage in their house codes as well - seemed to have replicated with minor changes. Arianators, come at us lol. • #sweetener #arianagrande #appropriation #culturalappropriation #creepyyeha #sweetenertour #popstar #musician #costumes #bondage #hardware #leather #custom #madetomeasure #madeinnyc #versace #donatellaversace #madeinitaly #pastel #pink #rihanna #badgalriri #ciara #rihannanavy #blackgirlmagic #wiwt #ootd #dietprada
