Researchers in Seattle are working on a software that can identify and remove unsolicited dick pics sent through direct messages on Twitter.
When developer Kelsey Bressler received an unwanted nude photo from a man, she felt it was “disrespectful” and “violating,” and wanted to do more in protecting social media users from cyber-flashers.
Hence, she is now in the midst of refining an artificial intelligence system with a friend. This system is aimed to recognize and delete unwanted penis pictures before users see them.
Bressler tested out the tool by creating a Twitter inbox with her team that calls upon men to “send nudes for science.”
With that being said, so many nude photos came in that the team had to turn off all direct messages later on.
During the experiment, the AI missed out on a nude picture sent by a man wearing a cage over his private area, as well as one of a penis dusted with glitter.
The good news is it was able to eradicate “basic” penis photos and nude pictures. Bressler told the BBC that the team would potentially share their findings on Twitter once the project is completed.
I'm soliciting dick pics at the handle @showyodiq .— K E L S E Y (@raeBress) September 5, 2019
This is not a joke.
I am testing a filter that is under development which will automatically detect dick pics in DMs and handle them on behalf of the user (delete, delete&block).
18+ , consensual, human dicks only please.
I'm closing DMs again while we do some analysis.— showMeYourD (@showYoDiq) September 9, 2019
Thanks for all of your submissions and helping to test the filter.
