Bob Ross is synonymous to his larger-than-life hair, the phrase “happy little accidents,” and The Joy of Painting tutorials. In the 403 episodes of the PBS show, Ross produced a purported 1,143 landscape paintings.
His fame resurged among younger audiences when live-streaming platform Twitch hosted a nine-day marathon of the show in 2015. These episodes can also be viewed on YouTube, and his most viewed episode, Island in the Wilderness, has amassed over 21 million views.
Since his death more than two decades ago in 1995, Ross will now have his work put on up in an exhibition—with the exception of his own gallery— in a solo show.
The exhibition, Happy Accidents: An Exhibit of Original Bob Ross Paintings, will showcase 24 works from the television series at the Franklin Park Arts Center in Purcellville, Virginia from 10 September 2019 to 15 October 2019. The exhibit will be small and free-of-charge for all.
The art show will pay tribute to Ross with his memorable catchphrase and painting motto: “We don’t make mistakes here, we have happy little accidents.”
More information on the exhibition can be found on Franklin Park Arts Center’s website.
