Facebook and Ray-Ban parent company Luxottica are reportedly teaming up to create augmented reality glasses for all to wear.
CNBC purports that the two companies are currently working on a pair of glasses called ‘Orion’. The accessory aims to replace smartphones by enabling users to make and receive calls, reveal information on a mini display, and even let wearers livestream what they are presently seeing.
According to the report, Facebook is also working on an artificial intelligence voice assistant so the glasses’ actions can be triggered through voice commands.
There have apparently been tests running on creating a “ring device,” which permits users to enter information in the glasses through motion sensors. However, it is still unclear on how it would actualize and look.
However, CNBC details that Facebook is faced with the challenge of reducing the size of the smart glasses into something that the masses would be more comfortable with.
The launch period for the spectacles is projected to be around 2023 to 2025.
