Google Satisfyingly Pays Homage To ‘Friends’ Characters With Hidden Easter Eggs
By Yimin Huang, 20 Sep 2019
Google is celebrating the 25th anniversary of wildly successful television series Friends by including character Easter eggs into its search tool.
Since this Thursday, a special feature has been rolled out, where searches of Friends characters would be matched with nostalgic icons.
For instance, searching ‘Ross Geller’ would bring up a couch icon, and clicking on it would produce a soundbite of ‘Geller’ shouting, “Pivot!” Further clicks would trigger the couch icon to split into two and produce the famous line from ‘Gellar’ saying it could no longer “pivot.”
Meanwhile, looking up ‘Phoebe Buffay’ would bring up a guitar icon, and clicking on it would lead to a black cat appearing on the screen. ‘Buffay’s famous song Smelly Cat would then be played.
For ‘Rachel Green’, Google chose her haircut as her icon, which would direct visitors to a Google Images search results page for her legendary hairdo.
Fans of Friends should try out all the Easter eggs while they last, as they are only here for a good time, not a long time.
