Beijing 2022’s Adorable Mascots Will Surely Melt Your Heart
By Yimin Huang, 20 Sep 2019
It seems that the year 2008 was not so far away, when Beijing last hosted the Olympics. Now, the organizing committee has already come up with designs for the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games mascots.
The mascots are called ‘Bing Dwen Dwen’, a panda, and ‘Shuey Rhon Rhon’, a red lantern. Both characters are adorable, with short stubby legs and arms, innocent eyes and large heads. They also remind people of China with immediacy, as the panda and the color red are emblematic of the nation.
The first mascot released to the general public was the panda ‘Bing Dwen Dwen’. An accompanying video shows the animal flying into outer space. The Beijing 2022 committee also described the creature as wearing a “suit of ice” and a “heart of gold.”
Meanwhile, ‘Shuey Rhon Rhon’, also known as the Chinese lantern child, is the mascot for the Paralympic Winter Games. The committee tweeted that the mascot has already “warmed our hearts,” and it is easy to agree. In an animated video, ‘Shuey Rhon Rhon’ is seen skiing expertly as Beijing 2022-themed hot air balloons float all around the character.
Check out the cheeky videos below. The sweet creatures may become one of the most unforgettable Olympics mascots to date.
