Selena Gomez Opens Up About Why She Had To Take A Break From Social Media
By Yimin Huang, 20 Sep 2019
Last year, Selena Gomez took a break from social media, before checking herself into an East Coast facility in October to get mental health treatment.
Gomez was admitted into the facility at a time when she also had physical health problems that added to her stress. She had a low white blood cell count before that, leading to a panic attack in the hospital that was “the tipping point” for her mental health.
Recently, Gomez opened up about her choice to get treatment for the first time, in a speech last week at McLean Hospital in Boston. Gomez revealed that it was “one of the scariest” times in her life when she reached the “tipping point.”
Her doctors gave her a “clear diagnosis” that helped her figure out why she had “suffered for so many years” from anxiety and depression, according to Elle.
Gomez also talked about how her mother’s teaching about facing her fears encouraged her to confront her problems, even when the diagnosis left her both “terrified and relieved.”
While she was at the facility, Gomez got to speak to many people who faced similar struggles, and also collaborated with “some of the greatest… psychiatrists” to bring herself to a better state.
The singer recently shared pictures from the McLean hospital’s annual dinner, as well as from her Boston trip. It seems that she made the right decision taking back control of her life.
