Instagram Tests Dark Mode—It Looks Like More Zombies Will Be Scrolling At Night

If you have a love-hate relationship with Instagram for triggering your hunger pangs when you’re tucked in bed, the new feature that it’s trialing might not do you good.
The social network is testing out dark mode, the enabler to your late-night lurkings and hindrance to your supper cravings.
Currently, the experiment is only running on some Android devices installed with Instagram’s beta mode. Not everyone who is using the beta version sees the dark mode, though—the test circle seems to be highly varied, with several Android 10 users and a handful of Samsung smartphone owners with Android 9 Pie being shown the feature thus far.
Screenshots reveal a sleek, fully black interface with gray and white used for buttons and icons.
However, it is still a little buggy, as 9to5Google’s Ben Schoon points out that the dark feature “blacks out” the status bar. The overall aesthetic looks striking, nonetheless, as previewed in the images below.
