These distressing images of British trophy hunters posing together with their slaughtered zebras are causing outrage on Facebook.
These hunters go on holiday safaris to murder these zebras for cheap thrills. They then posed next to these vulnerable animals, grinning about their “trophy animal.”
One hunter, who is a UK safari agent, shared his experience on Facebook with a horrifying photo of his souvenir hunt. The post is currently hidden. Over at Huntershill Safari website, hunters can be seen posing with many other animals they have killed during the trip.
Zebras have been listed as one of the “threatened species” by the International Union of the Conservation of Nature. Even so, many hunters still flock to South Africa as it is not illegal to hunt these animals there.
After looking at the images, animal welfare minister Zac Goldsmith said it made his stomach sick. Goldsmith aims to ban the import of trophy hunting parts back to the UK, in hopes to put a stop to the sick trade.
Member of the Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting group Eduardo Goncalves described the event as “unbelievable” and couldn’t understand why there aren’t any legal restrictions on “shooting zebras for fun.”
Andy Denson is a British trophy hunter. He is also an agent for Thaba Thala Safaris where you can shoot zebras, giraffes, monkeys + hippos for ‘sport’. https://t.co/Wlwwed9dCU #BanTrophyHunting pic.twitter.com/JjQu3KVRkd— Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting (@CBTHunting) September 30, 2019
What's the World Wildlife Fund doing to stop zebra hunting in South Africa? It's a double standard-- letting wealthy Brit hunters shoot zebras for £ 5000 per week or £ 500 a day. And saying there's no ban. pic.twitter.com/pBuGSL1TTR— satisshroff (@satisshroff21) October 1, 2019
This has got to stop!!! In this day and age this should be illegal with a maximum prison sentence! How can anyone get joy out of this!? Scum.— Big Dunc (@Duncanreddevil) September 30, 2019
