Instagram Makes Lurking Around People You Follow Harder By Removing Tab

Instagram is getting rid of its ‘Following’ Activity Feed, and the internet is divided. The ‘Following’ tab is a feed that displays the likes, comments and follows made by friends.
Since 2011, users have been able to see if people they follow recently liked, commented on posts or followed another user. Account owners might use the feature as a source of entertainment to “creep” on others or simply use the Activity tab to discover new trends and content.
While many are aware that their followers can see what they are up to, there are some who remain oblivious to the Activity tab and could possibly feel spooked if they made a belated discovery.
Starting this week, the ‘Following’ Activity Tab will no longer be available and the only tab displayed will feature users’ own activity on the app.
Instagram’s head of product Vishal Shah told BuzzFeed News that the feature has not been used frequently, and the company wondered if users were even aware of its existence.
Considering that people might not know their activity is being watched by followers, it could mean that the feature is not doing what it was designed to do. As a result, it could end up “causing people to be surprised” upon learning that their Instagram activity was on display.
Shah explained that “simplicity was the driving factor” to the feature’s removal, which—as proven in the tweets below—was met with the dismay of some internet users.
The move follows Instagram’s launch of a Threads app that allows users to share quick images and videos with close friends.

Guys think they're slick, but are they familiar with the Following tab on Instagram?? 🤔— Jacy Jordan (@jacyjordan) June 26, 2016
I can’t believe Instagram is getting rid of the Following Activity tab. 70% of what I do on Instagram comes from seeing what other cool things people have found, checking out those accounts, and sometimes just having a giggle over what they’re into. 1/3— elemsee ⚽️ 🥝 🍀 🦕 🤞 🧩 (@elemsee) October 8, 2019
