Kanye West has been on a spiritual pursuit, touring around the US and Kingston, Jamaica for a musical worship he calls Sunday Service.
The rapper also guest-starred in James Corden’s Airpool Karaoke, in which West mentioned receiving US$68 million in tax refunds due to his revived faith in Christ.
Now, West has released his ninth studio album titled Jesus Is King. Being an entrepreneur with a highly-coveted clothing and sneaker line named YEEZY, the 42-year-old did not miss the opportunity to make sales through a new merch line.
On Thursday, West’s record label Def Jam posted a tweet showcasing a few of his brand new merchandise designed by A$AP Rocky’s creative agency, AWGE.
The aesthetic of the designs, available on West’s online shop, can be quite nostalgic, though social media users have joked that it brings to mind the classic Microsoft Paint software.
The range’s fonts and gradient color schemes apparently resemble presets found in Microsoft’s WordArt collection. Some of its text has also been stretched, a jarring sight for many creative professionals.
The ultra-pixelated, morphed and roughly-sketched versions of Christ in motifs have also drawn comparisons with assets in the clipart library.
The maximalist designs have had the internet in a stir. Scroll down to check out some reactions.
