Carl’s Jr.’s ‘Food Porn’ Ads Aren’t The Most Pleasant To Watch With Your Family

Some of the most awkward family moments are when everyone’s on the couch and a sex scene appears on television. Carl’s Jr.’s provocative adverts weirdly have a tendency to elicit that feeling.
In October, the burger chain took things up a notch to promote its large Big Carl sandwich. You can see where this is going.
The “food porn”-worthy campaign, produced by advertising agency Argonaut, features a series of commercials that invite your carnal urges.
In one video, a woman’s voice can be heard sultrily calling the Big Carl a “piping hot piece of lunch,” at the same time taunting McDonald’s by claiming the Carl’s Jr. burger makes “Big Mac look like a micro patty baby lunch.”
She goes on to describe Big Carl’s meat as, “full-grown… maybe too big.”
Argonaut recounts that Carl’s Jr. approached the ad agency to “help us get our mojo back.”
The chain had faced contention for its raunchy commercials through the years, so “we turned the objectification away from women and human beings all together and directed attention squarely where it belongs—the messy, amazing, saucy burger,” the agency details.
“The campaign and its ‘saucy talk’ are enough to make even the most repressed burger fan blush,” Argonaut adds.
In spite of the revised approach, viewers on YouTube have commented that family nights get “so awkward” whenever the commercials pop up on their televisions.
