Microsoft is ringing in Christmas early with a new advertisement for the holiday season. The one-minute advert showcases its real-time language translation technology known as the Microsoft Translator.
The cloud service is able to translate around 60 languages and is a part of the company’s future of translation technology.
Titled as Holiday Magic: Lucy & the Reindeer, the advert sees a six-year-old girl, Lucy, watching her mother on a conference call using a Surface laptop as she speaks with her Japanese colleagues with the Translator. Soon two reindeers show up at her snowy front yard, triggering the little girl to grab the laptop to speak with the reindeers.
She holds up the laptop and says, “Can you understand me?” The noises made by the reindeers translates to Lucy as “Yes.” She begins bombarding the reindeers with a list of questions from how they fly to what Santa does over the summer.
The adorable advert includes a disclaimer at the end claiming that the Translator does not include reindeer language yet. The short clip will make its debut on TV during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Microsoft’s corporate vice president of brand, advertising and research Kathleen Hall shared with CNBC that the theme builds off from the previous year on, “What does technology do make the world better for people, or bring them together?”
Have a look at the endearing advert below.
