Shoppers are accusing ASOS for hiking up prices to make its Black Friday discounts seem bigger.
According to Twitter user Victoria Atkins, the fast fashion store raised the price of its black boots from £36 (US$46.46) to £45 (US$58.08) before slashing it to £33.50 (US$43.24) as part of its Black Friday discount.
Atkins called out ASOS on Twitter, stating, “Why are you putting prices up to make discounts look better, ASOS?” She also shared a screenshot of the boots at the three aforementioned prices.
Atkins isn’t the only customer noticing this apparent nasty trick from the retailer, as other social media users, too, have spotted a similar increase in prices from the store.
“I purchased a fleece for £45 (US$58.08) that is today reduced from £50 (US$64.53) to £47.50 (US$61.31),” another customer complained.
ASOS, however, has shunned the claims, defending that it did not deliberately raise its prices ahead of the sale.
