British Columbia’s Hotel Zed has been offering its patrons four-hour getaway specials on Valentine’s Day for five years, but this year, it is encouraging couples to symbolize their love by welcoming a new member into their families. There’s a reward for it too.
The hotel chain with locations in Victoria and Kelowna will award couples with a free stay at any Hotel Zed location for the next 18 years if they introduce a new baby into their lives in nine months following the pairs’ Nooner vacation.
The Nooner promotion was originated by the hotel’s CEO Mandy Farmer to provide couples with kids an option to have a short romantic getaway on Valentine's Day. The term, however, stands for “illicit quickie,” which might seem a little tawdry to some.
This special, which starts from US$45, invites couples to check in from 10am to 2pm to enjoy each other’s company for four hours.
“I don’t think we’re going to convince someone who’s not thinking about having a baby to have a baby. But if you’re serious about expanding your family, why wouldn’t you try?” Farmer suggests. “If you succeed, you’ll win a way to celebrate your baby’s conception for the next 18 years.”
As a partner of nonprofit LGBTQ organization Pride at Work, Hotel Zed opens this offer to anyone no matter their gender identity, expression or sexual orientation, so couples with kids through surrogacy or adoption are still entitled to the deal.
