Travel review company TripAdvisor has teamed up with creative agency Mother London to give its popular owl mascot, Eddie, a monochromatic makeover.
Eddie used to be depicted in a myriad of colors and had his eyes in different shades. To Creative Bloq, it suggested that Eddie was on a “different kind of trip.”
Mother London decided to give Eddie a minimalist makeover comprising an all-black design that is also flexible to use in various platforms.
Eddie’s eyes have also been tweaked, but the essence of his playful vibe has been retained.
The new logo additionally comes with a new custom typeface, ‘Trip Sans’, which was created by Colophon Foundry. A striking new color palette dominated by TripAdvisor-synonymous ‘Trip Green’ has also been introduced.
“What was an exercise both in reduction of complexity and amplification of character resulted in a much simpler owl, and a complementary custom typeface by Colophon Foundry which could carry the weight of the real, global, human connection the brand believes in,” Mother London explained.
TripAdvisor announced that it will gradually roll out the new look in the coming year.
The new TripAdvisor logo looks a lot better, yet I wonder if it didn't lose too much of it's 'distinctiveness' (as does @ucllc ). Would love to see how it holds up in some user testing. https://t.co/cxMzMVwTCA
