Paralympics Logo Gets Refined, With Update On Colors To Resemble Olympic Rings
By Izza Sofia, 13 Feb 2020
The International Paralympics Committee (IPC) has teamed up with creative agency North to create a recognizable visual identity for the Paralympic Games.
Ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Games, the IPC hopes that the new identity unifies its visual output while challenging perceptions around disability.
To do so, North gave the Paralympics logo, the Agitos, a refreshing change. Though the changes are subtle, they are essential and give a more unified look nodding at the blue, red and green Olympic rings.
North tweaked the colors and made the logo more symmetrical. The logo now “implies equal standing” when placed alongside the Olympics logo, signifying a more “unified goal,” North’s Josef Clinch said to Creative Bloq.
North also created a new typeface called ‘New Hero’ to go along with the new symbol to be used across other promotional materials—from style guidelines to video channels.
According to Clinch, Para Sports spells “determination, positivity and dynamism.” The agency hopes that the new identity will amplify the “wave of energy and enthusiasm” from the Tokyo 2020 to future events.
