Greta Thunberg has unveiled a campaign video showing a house burning to the ground while calling for action on a pressing issue: climate change.
The terrifying video shows a family waking up in morning, having breakfast and talking to each other while their house is engulfed in flames. The clip was released by Thunberg’s organization, Fridays for Future, which partnered with creative agency FF Los Angeles for the project.
The video begins with an alarm going off inside a burning house. The mother gets up and steps over flames, as she proceeds to wake up her children. The family then sits and eats breakfast together while the flames crawl up the walls. The clip ends with the phrase, “Our house is on fire. React.”
The video was launched on World Earth Day to remind people that despite the lockdown, climate change is still a huge problem to tackle. The campaign was inspired by Thunberg’s speech at the World Economic Forum in 2019, where she said, “I want you to act as if our house is on fire. Because it is.”
An organizer from Fridays for Future, Joe Hobbs, said, “We believe it’s time people realize that climate change isn’t going to happen, but that it’s already happening. We hope that by watching this video, people will realize they need to take action now, instead of putting it off until later.”
Fridays for Future used the video to launch a 24-hour climate change-themed livestream.
