Cafe Rothe in Schwerin, a town in Germany, has reopened after COVID-19 restrictions were lifted. However, the cafe has opted for an unusual method to observe social distancing among its patrons.

The café and confectionary store requires customers to wear straw hats with two colorful pool noodles attached on top of them to force some distance between themselves and other patrons.

Jaqueline Rothe, owner of the café, shared a photo of its current situation on Facebook with the caption, “Today it’s like this: distance measurement.”

“It was a perfect gag, and of course it was funny, our customers were really into it. But what it did show to us [was] how difficult it is to keep a distance of 1.5 meters (4.9 feet),” Rothe told local television network RTL.

Cafe Rothe normally has 36 tables indoors and 20 outside. Now with the new hygiene and safe-distancing measures, the café only has 12 tables indoors and eight outside. The tables were also placed around 31.5 inches apart, according to CNN.
