No, MSNBC Did Not Use Footage From ‘World War Z’ While Reporting On Protests

A joke on Twitter depicting MSNBC running Black Lives Matter protest footage with snippets from World War Z had gone out of control, and somehow convinced social media users it was legitimate.
An image and footage circulating on Twitter appeared to have compared news reportage to a scene from the film starring Brad Pitt. The clip was edited to replicate MSNBC’s reporting on the ongoing protests.
The report also featured visuals that displayed an aerial view of Philadelphia, and included smoke and fire shown in World War Z’s movie trailer.
However, if you look closely at the doctored MSNBC video, you can see a tiny label that reads, “BAD SCOOTER/NOT REAL.” Bad Scooter, a Twitter account, has taken credit for the viral video.
“Yes, that MSNBC clip was from World War Z, I even marked the video above the logo ‘NOT REAL,’” the user explained. “I dramatically underestimated Twitter. Many pointed it out, some claimed it was ‘real’—that was stupid of me. I apologize.”
The account also shared the original MSNBC video revealing real footage of Philadelphia.
MSNBC itself confirmed to Reuters that the edited footage was fake.
