Starbucks Will Halt All Social Media Adverts To Stop Brewing ‘Hate Speech’

Starbucks will be pausing all of its advertising on social media platforms Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to combat “the spread of hate speech.”
This move is not solely in support of the the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People’s (NAACP) Facebook ad boycott movement, #StopHateForProfit, but an overall attempt to curb hate speech online.
“We will pause advertising on all social media platforms while we continue discussions internally, with our media partners and with civil rights organizations in the effort to stop the spread of hate speech,” the company said in a statement on Sunday.
The recent boycott against Facebook has propelled distinguishable brands to pull ads to urge the company to regulate misinformation and hate speech on its platform. Some of the brands who have joined onboard include Unilever, Honda, Verizon, and Patagonia.
