North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was reportedly infuriated over an anti-Pyongyang leaflet campaign that was launched by defectors in South Korea.
The brochures featured “dirty, insulting” depictions of Kim’s wife, said Alexander Matsegora, Russian ambassador to North Korea “The leaflets bore a special kind of dirty, insulting propaganda, aimed at the leader’s spouse,” Matsegora told Russian publication TASS.
The communication materials were brought across the militarized border via balloons, a propaganda tactic between the two Koreas, but this time Pyongyang took things up a notch by blowing up a liaison office and threatening military measures.
The pamphlets included provocative images of North Korea’s first lady Ri Sol Ju, sparking “serious outrage” in Pyongyang. Based on images shared on Twitter, her face was photoshopped to place her in a steamy scene with a male model. One shot also showed her face superimposed on a pole dancer’s body.
“They were photoshopped ‘in such a low-grade way’,” Matsegora wrote, which he described to have served as “the last straw” for North Koreans.
North Korea blew up the liaison office on 16 June, days after Kim’s sister, Kim Yo Jong, was warned of “a tragic scene of the useless North-South joint liaison office completely collapsed.”
It’s said that Kim Jong Un was furious to see this leaflet in which his wife Lee (she was a singer) is said to be promiscuous before her marriage to Kim. Written in Korean and Japanese. In another leaflet she makes out with a man. pic.twitter.com/5sN2ATCMOQ

In 2013, a defector group sent leaflets toward DPRK demanding the execution of Kim Jong Un's wife Ri Sol Ju, on the false premise that she made a porn video and "rolled around w/ this man and that like a beast." @hrw's @Reaproy: "Korea don't you dare shut those defectors down!" https://t.co/kx0vQNiVUE pic.twitter.com/rEJ03en8sK
