Grandparents love spoiling their grandkids, but the COVID-19 pandemic now deprives many of them from acting out gestures of affection. It’s an especially confusing time for the elderly, who are suddenly discouraged from making physical contact with loved ones as they are more vulnerable to coronavirus exposure. Communication has to also be done digitally, leaving them to grapple with an unfamiliar territory on their own.
Just as how grandparents have unconditionally rewarded their grandchildren with treats like Happy Meals, McDonald’s Sweden is touchingly returning the favor with a Happy Meal of their own. The chain recently rolled out the ‘Happy Meal Senior’, a special Happy Meal for the elderly that came home-delivered with a personalized greeting from their grandkids.
The initiative, kicked off by McDonald’s Sweden and communication agency Nord DDB Stockholm, saw families being invited to surprise their senior relatives with the thoughtful meal box over a weekend.
The Happy Meal Senior arrived with the relatives’ favorite McDonald’s options, alongside a sweet greeting written or illustrated by their grandchildren.
“We wanted to let the kids surprise their grandparents with what they themselves love most, along with a surprise that we know the grandparents appreciate. We hope the initiative has made the lives of the grandparents a little more enjoyable,” described Sofie Lager, Senior Marketing Manager at McDonald’s Sweden, in a press release.
Awww, this is comfort food at its finest.
