Jason Bateman was incorrectly announced as a winner in this year’s Emmy awards due to a technical glitch.
Confusion arose after Bateman was declared the winner of the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series category for his role in The Outsider, while Ron Cephas Jones’ name appeared on the awards’ title card for This Is Us.
The ceremony immediately went to a commercial break, and when it returned, it acknowledged an error had occurred. “Our apologies, an incorrect winner has been announced. We’re fixing it now. Please don’t go away,” a title card read.
It was confirmed that Jones was the true winner. The evening turned out to be a historic event for his family, as his daughter Jasmine also received an award for the Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series title.
