Marvel Studios has found its Ms. Marvel for an upcoming titular series on Disney+.
The character, known as Kamala Khan, is a Pakistani-American Jersey girl who is able to stretch her body in powerful ways to fight villains in the city.
Marvel has cast 18-year-old Iman Vellani to play the role in the new Ms. Marvel series written by Bisha K. Ali, according to Deadline.
Although Vellani is a newcomer to the entertainment industry, she dabbled in behind-the-scenes projects at Toronto Film Festival last year, where she helped program and cover films screened at the event.
Upon hearing the news, fellow Marvel star Kumail Nanjiani expressed his delight on Twitter. “I just saw they cast Ms. Marvel and legit got teary-eyed. Congratulations Iman Vellani! Your work is going to mean so much to so many people, myself included. I can’t wait,” he wrote in the tweet.
