Another horror to have dominated the year 2020 is the murder hornet, which has surfaced in the United States for the first time.
The hornets, officially known as Asian giant hornets, have gotten their notorious nickname due to their ability to slaughter honeybee colonies.
Now, the country has captured its very first live one—and, depending on the way you see it, it’s either a sigh of relief or terrifying reminder that this murderous species exists.
Footage shared by the Washington State Department of Agriculture shows the hornet trapped in a canister. According to wildlife officials, an entomologist managed to catch it with a net.
Bees are vital to the ecosystem, as their ability to pollinate enables plants to grow and produce food. The presence of murder hornets threatens this role, and concerned experts hurried to search for a nest as soon as this insect was spotted.
