Gucci’s latest head-turner is a smock with a Peter Pan collar. While the look has been around for centuries, it has people hem-ming and hawing this time around as the garment is designed specifically for men.
The brand obviously foresaw the attention the €1,900 (US$2,230) ‘Tartan cotton long smock shirt’ would receive, matching the smock with unexpected ripped denim jeans and chunky dad sneakers as opposed to more traditional wear.
The orange and beige “childhood-inspired” top is described by the Italian fashion house to be inspired by 90s grunge looks and a statement of “the idea of fluidity.”
It is part of its Fall/Winter 2020 fashion show, which circles around the “disrupting [of] the toxic stereotypes that mold masculine gender identity.”
Other key details of the smock top are its waist satin laces and mother of pearl button front.
Unfortunately, it appears to come without any pockets, so men rocking this piece will have to carry their belongings in a bag—an inconvenience women have been coping with for years.
