Meghan Markle’s fans were left baffled after a website dedicated to her probable future political career went viral online.
The website meghanforpresident.com came to light prior to the general election in the US, and features photos of Markle meeting various public figures and community representatives with headings that read “empowering the community” and “forging connections.”
It is also filled with inspiring quotes falsely attributed to Markle, and alleges that Markle is running for the Oval Office this year.
The site also has a button to “contribute” to the actress financially, but it isn’t linked to anywhere.
The sketchy message says Markle has “confirmed” she is running for the 2020 election. “After many months of reflection and internal discussions, I have heard your calls to become the President of the United States of America,” it reads. “It is with your encouragement… that I feel prepared to make this decision.”
It claims Markle has promised to bring “equality, empowerment and kindness to the dangerous and confrontational world,” and rounds off the message with the motto, “Together, we will lead” along with her “signature.”
Markle’s possible presidential bid has always been a talking point. Vanity Fair’s Katie Nicholl said, “One of the reasons she was so keen not to give up her American citizenship was so she had the option to go into politics. I think if Meghan and Harry ever gave up their titles she would seriously consider running for president.”
