Tesla CEO Elon Musk has lowered the price of the Model S sedan to US$69,420, just because he can.
“The gauntlet has been thrown down! The prophecy will be fulfilled. Model S price changes to $69,420 tonight!” Musk wrote on Twitter.
The cost was likely amended in response to Lucid’s pricing for its entry-level sedan at US$77,400 without a US$7,500 US tax credit. TechCrunch reported that this lets buyers qualify for credit. As a result, Tesla felt compelled to competitively marked the car at around US$69,900.
So, of course Musk decided to include the numbers “69” and “420” in the new cheeky price tag for the Model S series.
