This year, everyone deserves to laugh a little more, whether you’ve been clawing your way through your new home and work lives or lion around doing nothing. Thankfully, the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards is back with more pictures to make your days a lot easier to bear.
Over 7,000 global submissions for 2020 were superseded, quite aptly, by Terry the cranky turtle from Down Under, who scowled at Australian photographer Mark Fitzpatrick and even gave him the finger when they met face to face somewhere off Lady Elliot Island in Queensland.
The public voted for Roland Kranitz’s O Sole Mio! shot of a singing Spermophile as their favorite picture. Other category winners included Tim Hearn’s picture of an Azure Damselfly nailing an impression of Beaker from The Muppets, as well as Daisy Gilardini’s encounter with a brown bear who seemingly let out a lethal fart.
The annual Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards was started by photographers and conservationists Paul Joynson-Hicks and Tom Sullam in hopes of not only bringing about more smiles, but also aspires to raise more awareness about wildlife conservation through an optimistic lens. It is supported by the international animal charity, the Born Free Foundation.
Stay comforted ahead of hibernation season by checking out this year’s winning animal photos.
