Microsoft has warned Xbox users not to blow vape smoke into their consoles.
As the Xbox Series X became available last Tuesday, videos showing the consoles “overheating” and releasing smoke through their vents went viral online.
Twitter user prof3ssorblue tweeted about the smoke and complained, “@XboxSupport @Xbox seriously?? I've only had this for a few hours and it started smoking! I had to hurry and unplug. #XboxSeriesX.”
They later updated, “Still waiting on @Microsoft and @MicrosoftHelps to reach out. To be clear, the Xbox still works. As it happened last night, I unplugged, didn't know what to expect. Kids have had it on since 8am trying to recreate. Maybe some excess glue?”
Several other users, though, were quite skeptical and questioned if the videos were fake. An unofficial Twitter account called Xbox Studio showed how the smokey effect could be achieved through blowing vape smoke into the console.
The video was retweeted over 3,000 times, leading others to try their own DIY Xbox vape.
The official Xbox Twitter account has stepped forward to address the fake videos, writing, ‘We can’t believe we have to say this, but please do not blow vape smoke into your Xbox Series X.”
Head of marketing for Xbox Aaron Greenberg also tweeted, “Put down the vape and pick up the controller.”
