Australian eatery Grill’d is giving fast-food giant KFC a run for its money with the launch of healthy fried chicken (HFC).
The new HFC Bites are cooked in extra virgin olive oil, making them a much healthier option.
In a cheeky campaign, the chain is offering KFC employees free chicken bites from 17 to 22 November when they visit Grill’d in their uniform. It has also placed trucks outside KFC stores in Sydney and Melbourne with the words, “Dear KFC employees, you get free HFC.”
The restaurant has additionally designed street posters with the words, “Everyone deserves Healthy Fried Chicken,” “Don’t eat the dirty bird,” and “We use RSPCA approved 100 percent chicken breast.” These adverts will be put up near KFC restaurants nationwide.
“We are doing what we have done for many years for burgers, now for fried chicken,” said Grill’d founder Simon Crowe. “Investing in quality ingredients is an investment in our health and we’re biting back against the myth that fried chicken can’t be healthy.”
“There’s a new, healthier layer in the fried chicken game, and it’s about time,” Crowe added.
The company has put in time and research to create a product that is “clucking simple” but delicious and healthy at the same time. It claims that a 100-gram serving of HFC Natural Bites has 25-percent more protein, 47-percent less fat and 36-percent less sodium than McDonald’s McNuggets.
The HFC Bites come in Natural and Sticky Honey Soy options, and are not laced with artificial colors, flavors and preservatives.
