A New Zealand-based tour company has come up with a quirky way to quench your wanderlust during the pandemic.
Aspiring Adventures has launched a virtual tour guide platform called Cooee that allows travelers to connect with tour guides and go on virtual trips. For as low as US$17, guides from Cambodia, Croatia or Nepal will take you on a 45-minute one-on-one tour to local temples or floating villages.
Aspiring Adventures co-founder Steve Wilson said that the idea of the new platform came when the company had to shut down tour packages due to the coronavirus pandemic. The aim of Cooee (a term used by Australian Aborigines that means “come here”) is to ensure that guides will still earn a living by doing tours online.
What makes Cooee special is that each tour is customized. Therefore, you are able to tell the guide what you wish to see from that country. Some of the activities you can choose to do is walk on a beach in Fiji, travel around Australia in an RV, or experience the foothills of the Himalayas. Just pick a suitable time slot and call your guide over Zoom.
According to Wilson, the service might continue even after the pandemic. It could be helpful for those who are planning to take an actual trip and wish to have a sample of a destination, or cannot fly due to a disability or illness.
“It expands the possibilities for a travel experience,” he said.
