Not many 3D animated movies have struck a chord across generations as much as Pixar’s 2007 Ratatouille film. So when TikTok users created their own musical and ended up inspiring an actual full-fledged musical, tickets began selling like hot French cakes.
The official Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical sees Titus Burgess as the talented rat, Andrew Barth Feldman as Linguini, Kevin Chamberlin as Gusteau, Adam Lambert as Emile, André De Shields as Anton Ego, and Ashley Park as Colette, all singing to a TikTok community-created plot based on the Academy Award-winning film.
12 original songs have been chosen for the musical, which follows two culinary hopefuls—a young man and a rat—on their quest to impress notoriously strict food critic Anton Ego.
The musical was set up by Seaview Productions to help support The Actors Fund, and curiously, The Hollywood Reporter has shared that it has amassed over US$1 million as of 2 January.
According to POPSUGAR, the #RatatouilleMusical community, which has helped steer the direction of the musical, now has over 200 million followers all over the world.
“You did it!” the official Twitter account for Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical announced. “You raised over $1 million to benefit @TheActorsFund!”
Tickets to watch the musical on demand can be purchased at a pay-what-you-can price until 4 January at 5pm ET (2pm PT), and the pre-recorded feature will only stay live till 7pm ET (4pm PT).
