A year ago, the world was thrown into a tizzy, and everything we knew about routine and priorities was being challenged. It’s safe to say that people are somewhat more prepared now, having used this downtime to rewire and secure their processes. Part of this growth can be owed to the gamut of online courses available to keep people driven and in the know.
It’s no secret that hirers are looking out for people with more diverse skillsets these days. Whether you’re finding this an opportune time to look into another career field, or simply wish to “future-proof” yourself, Google and Coursera might just have the programs for you. The pair have launched three Professional Certificates aimed to have you prepared for an entry-level position in rising industries “in under six months”—without prior experience.
The collaboration presents three new certificates: a seven-course User Experience (UX) Design Professional Certificate to get you ready for an entry-level role in UX design with median wages of about US$82,000; a seven-course Data Analytics Professional Certificate to prepare you for entry-level data analytics roles offering annual median salaries of over US$63,000; and a six-course Project Management Professional Certificate detailing industry-standard project management techniques and necessary soft skills.
Each certificate is priced at US$39 per month, and classes are entirely remote and self-paced. While they mainly cover fundamentals, Coursera says the lessons will be great “stepping stones” in potentially high-paying roles for all sorts of new learners, whether they’re “new grads landing their first job, front-line workers seeking stable employment, mid-career professionals making a pivot, or parents planning their return to the workforce.”
Participants will also receive resources to help them fine-tune their résumés or prepare for job interviews. They’ll also get closer to companies recruiting employees from Google certificate programs, including Anthem, Deloitte, Snap Inc, and Verizon.
Come April, Google will also roll out 200,000 scholarships for the relevant certificates across the US, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
