The Black Panther is making quite an entrance in Audemars Piguet’s palace.
Having just embarked on a long-term partnership with Marvel Comics, the luxury watchmaker’s Royal Oak Concept
Black Panther Flying Tourbillon is just the beginning of many co-branded timepieces to come.
The watch sees Black Panther lunging over the hour and minute hands and the tourbillon at 6 o’clock. The figure is crafted in white-gold, laser-carved, and painted by hand, almost taking over the entire surface of the dial.
The watch is powered by the Caliber 2965 and it boasts a 42mm titanium case and an octagonal black ceramic bezel and crown. It also has a purple gasket and rubber strap to add an extra flair to the superhero-themed watch.
There are only 250 pieces of this design, and you might need superhuman powers to get your hands on one of them.
The watch officially debuted at a press conference hosted by Kevin Hart and Audemars Piguet CEO, Francois -Henry Bennahmias. The affair was topped with an auction, and the initial bidding for the watch started at US$100,000. It ended up with US$5.2 million at the end of the auction.
The watch is “rooted in ancestral craftsmanship and advanced technology,” Audemars Piguet shared. “[It] celebrates the Manufacture’s long-held values of tradition, innovation, and family embodied by Marvel’s Black Panther character.”
