Think you’ve seen all of New York City? Now, you can view it in even clearer detail while being seated comfortably in your chair.
To show off the capabilities of its new GigapixelCam X80, webcam maker EarthCam has produced the world’s largest and most detailed image of NYC. The camera is able to shoot full 360-degree panoramas, with a “military-grade pan/tilt/zoom base,” at a massive 80 gigapixels.
The result is an incredible 80,000 megapixel-view from the Empire State Building. You can revel in its sheer detail by zooming into the photo.
To take the image, EarthCam mounted the camera on top of the Empire State Building. The robotic webcam is built with a 61-megapixel Sony A7R IV to automatically take in thousands of images at 360 degrees. According to the company, the GigapixelCam X80 can capture more ground than dozens of cameras combined.
While EarthCam claims the camera can shoot 360-degree photos, DIY Photography points out that the panorama of NYC seems to only feature the side facing south, which means it just shows 180 degrees.
