Watch out, Bezos. According to app-tracking statistics cited by
TechCrunch, e-commerce behemoth
Amazon has bowed out to Shein as the shopping app with the most downloads on both iOS and Android app stores.
Who is she? You might ask.
Shein, previously known as She Inside, is an online fast-fashion store that was founded in 2008 with offices in major Chinese cities, the US, Belgium, and the United Arab Emirates. The shopping startup has been regarded as the “TikTok for e-commerce” by internet analyst
Matthew Brennan.
Despite purportedly surpassing a valuation of US$15 billion, Shein has kept a relatively low profile and isn’t as forthcoming as, say, Fashion Nova, Boohoo, and—perhaps most infamous for its marketing endeavors—Wish.

App Annie,
TechCrunch noted that Shein became the most-installed shopping app of Android devices in the US on May 11. Six days later, the app dominated the iOS App Store.
Whereas Amazon mainly serves as a middleman between merchants and buyers, Shein takes the reins of its own design and manufacturing work. Its entire process is mostly digitized, giving the startup freedom and ease to produce hundreds of products daily and according to user preferences, the publication reports.
