It looks like Instagram is testing a new feature that would allow you to add other users to your ‘Favorites’, so their posts would appear at the top of your news feed.
This could help users prioritize family, friends, or influencers they’re keener on hearing from.
As reported by Input, screenshots shared by developer Alessandro Paluzzi describe that “new posts from your favorites will appear higher in feed so you don’t miss out.”
Unfortunately, this ‘Favorites’ function has yet to be rolled out for external testing. Instagram told Input that the feature is still “an internal prototype that’s still in development.” Plus, as with most social media sites, not all new features being tested in-house eventually see the light of day.
Though Instagram purists still long for the days of the reverse-chronological feed, the company has confirmed that it’s never coming back.
The ‘Favorites’ function could be a compromise, allowing users to have some control over their feeds without ditching the platform’s engagement model entirely.
