A new tower that will find its home in Manhattan, New York, is designed to increase in size as it ascends. Named Era, it signifies a “new era on the Upper West Side.”
Era was conceptualized by American architecture firm ODA, and its renderings show a cantilevered structure encasing 57 residential units over 20 floors. Measuring around 250 feet tall, the project is scheduled for completion next fall.
“It grows as it ascends; by nature this allows people to enjoy the upper floors where the open views are, greater common spaces, and an outdoor pool on the roof,” details Eran Chen, the Founding Principal of ODA. This expanse of open, communal space is “almost inconceivable in other buildings on the Upper West Side,” he notes.

The pool, with views of the Hudson River, isn’t the only amenity available in this development; ODA aims to encapsulate the “upscale and intimate feel of a private club” with its offering of luxurious facilities to choose from.
The second floor is reserved solely for amenities, which include a pet grooming service alongside the usual gym, yoga studio, and children’s play area.
A standout feature of the building is its large windows, with the ones on the second floor situated just above the treeline to allow for “a rewarding, human connection between these sanctuary-like spaces and the street life just below.”
Another key characteristic is its focus on the integration into the neighborhood. Its exterior, clad in limestone, is the perfect showcase for details inspired by the surrounding buildings, with Art Deco style splashed tastefully throughout.
The result, ODA describes, is an “instant classic”: representing evolution from the past to present yet retaining the rich heritage of its surroundings, Era is “a love letter to the Upper West Side’s past and future.”
