IKEA France has stressed the importance of good rest on human wellbeing, and states than even
10 minutes can be beneficial for a mid-day energy level recharge.
And the company isn’t just all talk. With its eight new ‘Capsules de Sieste’ (Nap Capsules) that traversed Parisian streets last month, IKEA invited its local customers to test out its convenient new service while enjoying a quick energy boost.
Decked out in the signature bright yellow, the pods are towed along by an electric bicycle at its front so there’s no environmental cost to your afternoon recharge.
With a comfortable nap setup including mattresses, pillows, cushions, and a plush duvet, its passengers have the option to pull the curtains closed for their quick shuteye, or leave the window open to the world.
This service ran between 1:30pm and 6:30pm, encouraging Parisians to take time out of their day for an afternoon siesta for the sake of their health.
To book a ride, nap, or both, passengers just needed to share a tweet or Instagram story with the hashtag
#LaSiesteIKEA. After confirmation, a cyclist would locate the user, pick them up, and give them a 30-minute ride—the perfect nap time.
Although the service was a short-lived experiment of sorts, running from August 30 to September 3, it proved to be largely popular. Its eye-catching yellow design probably didn’t hinder it from being spotted easily on the streets.
Maybe we’ll see these comforting pods towed along more cities’ streets in time to come. Even without hitching a nap in one, seeing them alone is a great way to remind ourselves to recharge throughout our hectic daily lives.
